Clever little dodge

Back to Computer Stuff

Update!! Update!!!! - 29th May, 2006 - Hear this, hear this!!!

See below - indented black italics.....all that was written 3rd November, 2004 - pretty harmless.... I thought.....

But No!! This is a heinous crime!! Be warned..... never ever do what I suggested in any of your web-pages!!

Why??

Because, Google doesn't want you to. If you do it (as I did) eventually Google will detect it... and will then remove all of your sites from its index. Hiding text is against the rules!! Except that Google don't tell you!! I only found out about it after weeks of trying to get my sites re-included in the Google index and failing - and then I found http://blog.tn38.net/archives/2005/03/why_has_my_site.html - see "Step 2" - the third bullet point...... Check and remove any hidden tricks or spam. White text on white background is common. This is likely to be the main reason for being banned or dropped.

I've removed all the white on white from my sites now - but I still have to email Google and ask them to re-include me - and here I come to one of those "BIG ENTERPRISE' versus "little man" situations, and I hope Google will play fair.....

When I did my "white on white - clever dodge" - I did it because I thought it was clever - maybe helpful to some people in some situations - and couldn't imagine why it should be dis-allowed - I still cannot. I'd like my sites re-included into Google's Index, but if they want me to grovel/apologise - that is a step too far. Google - what is the "problem" with hiding text??

And - yes.... I've even made the white on white text in the example below - silver on white, so there can be no doubt that I'm now obeying Google's rules! Let's see how long it takes to get re-included......

You know sometimes you want to put something up on a web-page, but you don't want everybody to be able to see/read it??

Here's a very insecure, but very easy way of doing it....

I'll put how much I spent on dinner last night in between these square brackets...[$57.50]....... there - can you see how much I spent??

Now put your cursor on the left bracket, left click - hold it down and drag across to the right bracket.... got it??

Just add what you don't want others to read into your web-page with the foreground font colour - the same as the background font colour.

Clever hey?? But not all that secure!!
